With the introduction of the Curriculum for Wales, the St Giles’ Centre has responded by offering a range of FREE professional learning courses designed to provide online targeted support for teachers in Wrexham.

Staff at the St Giles’ Centre are closely involved with professional learning developments related to RVE at a national level in Wales, which help us to develop professional learning initiatives that are informed by the ‘bigger picture’. Updates on these developments will be posted on this page and in our blog.

All participants receive a ‘Certificate of Participation’ from the St Giles’ Centre and our partners: Wrexham County Borough Council and Bishop Grosseteste University.

Professional learning for GCSE and A-level is also included on this page.

Current professional learning opportunites

Let’s talk about progression in RVE

The St Giles’ Centre is offering a free whole day training event for primary practitioners in Wrexham on progression in Religion, Values and Ethics (RVE). The event will take place at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, Wrexham on Thursday, 3 July 2025 (see event flyer below). The event will offer practitioners the opportunity to engage in professional dialogue with colleagues and experts, share ideas, receive useful resources, and consider what progression in RVE might look like for their own learners.

Religion, Values and Ethics: What’s new?

These Welsh Government professional learning playlists are intended to support practitioners with the changes to RVE (formerly Religious Education), within the Curriculum for Wales. The modules are specifically tailored and aim to support practitioners. They help with the transition to a new way of thinking, planning and delivering an RVE curriculum that is purposeful for learners in Wales. The playlists are part of a joint Welsh Government and WASACRE project, and St Giles’ Centre staff have played a key role in their development.

They include playlists for RVE for:

  • the early years
  • primary
  • secondary
  • additional learning needs
  • headteachers
  • governors

Here is the link to all these playlists on the Welsh Government Hwb.
