Online resources for statutory collective worship

All state-maintained schools in Wales and England are legally required to provide a daily act of collective worship for all learners who are under the age of 16. This is also the case for learners over the age of 16, if they have not officially withdrawn themselves from acts of statutory collective worship.

Collective worship and RE/RVE are two different things, and it is important not to get them confused with one another. Some helpful guidance on statutory collective worship is found in the Wales Association of SACRE’s document Guidance on collective worship (June 2012), which sets out many of the educational benefits of collective worship as well as the legal responsibilities for both state-maintained schools without a religious character and those with a religious character.
