Summary

Libby is the Advisory Teacher for Religious Education in Wrexham, employed by Wrexham County Borough Council. She is a Humanities and Religious Education specialist, holding a BA (Hons) in Humanities from Birmingham University, a PGCE in Secondary Religious Education from Coventry University, and an MA in Religion and Education from the University of Wales. Libby has over 20 years teaching experience, and for the majority of that time she has taught RE within the Wrexham County Borough. Libby is local to North East Wales and supports both local and national interfaith and RE related groups. She is also an active member of national and international organisations concerned with religious education, and currently advises and supports Welsh Government on the development of RE within the Curriculum for Wales 2022.

Research interests

Libby’s research interests stem from her recent MA, which included a number of different research projects using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Her work to date includes research concerned with: religious education, learning outside the classroom, pilgrimage, learner voice and collective worship. She hopes to broaden her research interests to support teachers with the roll out and implementation of the Curriculum for Wales.

Curriculum interests

Libby has contributed subject expertise and skills to the drafting of the Supporting Framework for Religion, Value and Ethics, which will form part of the statutory guidance for the Curriculum for Wales in 2022. In doing so, she has developed a keen interest in the natural interdependencies of all the disciplines within the Humanities area of learning and experience. In addition to this, Libby’s interests extend to the relationships RVE has with other areas of the curriculum, including Expressive Arts and Health and Wellbeing. An area that is of particular interest to her is the spiritual development of all learners and its contribution to the four purposes.
