What personal data we collect and why we collect it
If you contact us using our contact form, we will only use your data to deal with your specific enquiry, after which time your details are deleted. We do not share personal data with any third parties.
Our site uses the built-in Stats (analytics) which are part of our wordpress.com website account. WordPress Stats tracks and retains the following information about our site’s visitors:
- post and page views
- video plays
- outbound link clicks
- referring URLs and search engine terms
As part of collating the above information, Stats uses data like IP address, WordPress.com user ID (if logged in), WordPress.com username (if logged in), user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, and country code. However, none of this information is available to us as site owners. For example, as site owner we can see that a specific post has 285 views, but we cannot see which specific users/accounts viewed that post. Furthermore, the Stats logs, in which this information is stored, are only retained for 28 days.
We use this information to help us understand how our site is being used in order to improve the service we offer.
Cookies are small pieces of data, stored in text files, that are stored on your computer or other device when websites are loaded in a browser. They are widely used to “remember” you and your preferences, either for a single visit (through a “session cookie”) or for multiple repeat visits (using a “persistent cookie”). They ensure a consistent and efficient experience for visitors, and perform essential functions such as allowing users to register and remain logged in. Cookies may be set by the site that you are visiting (known as “first party cookies”), or by third parties, such as those who serve content or provide advertising or analytics services on the website (“third party cookies”).
Both websites and HTML emails may also contain other tracking technologies such as “web beacons” or “pixels.” These are typically small transparent images that provide us with statistics, for similar purposes as cookies. They are often used in conjunction with cookies, though they are not stored on your computer in the same way. As a result, if you disable cookies, web beacons may still load, but their functionality will be restricted.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
Protecting your Information
As the St Giles’ Centre provides only free services and sells no products directly, there is no secure server connection other than standard firewalls and anti-virus software to protect our computer systems. Therefore, the St Giles’ Centre cannot and does not guarantee and does not accept liability for unintentional disclosure.
